Big Boy blows it…Blue lose to Hated Ones 3-2

Published by papatr1x at 11:36 pm under Dodgers Edit This

Bad outing by Broxton today. First off, he probably should have taken the out at first on that weak grounder instead of throwing an ill-advised ball to home. There was a such a small chance Brox could run back, field the ball, and also throw a perfect strike to Martin. That play pretty much sealed the game for the Giants. Brox than went on to load the bases with one out, and give up a single to a drawn-in infield. Growing pains are to be expected of Broxton, and he will eventually right his ship. Although I do find it weird that Torre would send Broxton out there a third consecutive day, even if he only pitched to 2 batters yesterday. He had been kept on the shelf for 6 days due to a tired arm, so he might be fresh for 3 games, or be close to breaking down. I sure hope it is not the latter. Torre should have played it safe and sent out Kuo and gave Broxton the day off after he has collected 2 saves already.

But it can’t be all on Broxxy. The Dodgers collected 10 hits and left 12 men on base today. Some very bad hitting by Russ Martin and some not so clutch hitting from James Loney. Loney and Martin have to do something behind Manny. Kent has clearly stepped up his game in front of Manny, but the rest of the guys have to do something.

The good: Kuroda is back. Some nice outfield assists by Kemp.

The bad: Ethier, Kent and Manny had 7 of the 10 hits. Everyone else blew. I’ve said it before but Casey Blake has got to hit behind Manny.

The ugly: That thow by Broxon.
