Nomar walks off with win over Phils, 7-6
It was one of those games where the Dodgers were primed for a comeback. Penny was horrible for the first couple innings, spotting the Phillies 6 runs. The Dodgers chipped away with homers from Manny and Ethier, and the Dodger bullpen was just solid in keeping the Phils from putting the Blue away. Nomar finally put the cap on the game with a game-winning walk-off solo shot. It was probably one of the lowest hit homers ever, as it just barely cleared the Dodger bullpen fence. But by the end of the day, the Dodgers are now tied with the D’backs in first place. Hopefully we can sweep the Phillies tomorrow behind Kuroda and keep it up against the hot Brewers this week. The schedule gods are with us, as there will be no CC Sabathia or Ben Sheets to go up against. Whew.
The good: Blue flexed their powerful homerun muscles today even though all 3 homers barely cleared the fence.
The bad: Torre is a hall of fame manager, but leave Johnson in to hit with Martin in scoring postion? And then after Johnson gets 2 outs and walks a guy you bring in Beimel? If you are going to have a pitcher hit, leave him in there longer.
The ugly: Torre’s bad move and Nomar’s heroics wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for Brad Penny.
